Ricoh Develops Rewriteable Double-Layered HD DVD

Ricoh has unveiled a 30GB double-layered HD DVD that can be rewritten a 1,000 times, the first such disc for the HD DVD format. The company plans to commercialize the disc in 2006. By gluing two recording films together, Ricoh saves approximately 60% in production costs. Ricoh is also developing double-layered discs for the Blu-ray standard, and it aims both the HD DVD and the Blu-ray disc towards PC users.
